Types of Treatment

Physiotherapists use physical means to treat and rehabilitate. These can vary depending on your problem. Common treatments include one or more of the following: massage, joint manipulation, joint mobilisation, stretching and strengthening exercise, postural correction and acupuncture.

Ergonomic assessment and biomechanical analysis: movement analysis can range from [walking] gait analysis, office and workstation design and sport specific analysis.

Clinical Pilates: we target deep postural muscles of the trunk to improve overall central core stability and posture to aid control and alignment of the head, neck, shoulders, spine and pelvis to improve co-ordination of movement. As such we emphasise quality of movement and explain subsequent dysfunction.

Manual Therapy: we specialise in joint and tissue mobilisation and manipulation which we can incorporate as part of a rehabilitative program.

Acupuncture: we use clinical acupuncture to target specific pressure points and stimulate nerve endings throughout the body. This stimulates the body’s natural pain relieving chemicals (which include endorphins, melatonin and serotonin) to help the body's natural healing mechanisms and pain suppressing processes. Trigger point acupuncture is used specifically to facilitate relaxation in specific muscles for longer-term unresolved muscle pain, or as a means of increasing muscle length in order to aid stretch and rehabilitation. Within a treatment we apply single-use, pre-sterilised disposable needles. These may be left in position for 20 minutes before being removed.

Electrotherapy: we also specialise in various electrotherapeutic techniques such as therapeutic ultrasound, interferential and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TNS).
